Services

The New Swindon Sanctuary Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) provides a comprehensive and co-ordinated forensic, counselling and aftercare service to men, women and children, living in the Swindon and Wiltshire area who have experienced rape or sexual assault, whether this has happened recently or in the past.

Our Centre comprises a team of experts with a wealth of knowledge and experience in advising, supporting and treating anyone who has been raped or sexually assaulted.

The New Swindon Sanctuary SARC provides a range of services for people who have been raped or sexually assaulted. You can access one or all of our services depending on your needs.

Our services are available for men, women, children and young people. They include:

  • Immediate Crisis Support
  • Forensic Medical Examination
  • Access to Emergency Contraception
  • Options that will address the risk of some Sexually Transmitted Infections and onward fast-track referral for full sexual health screening
  • Access to an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor to provide support
  • Access to counselling support for over 16's
  • A 24 hour advice and information line 0808 168 0024

WHILST THE NEW SWINDON SANCTUARY OFFERS A 24/7 SERVICE, APPOINTMENTS NEED TO BE MADE IN ADVANCE BEFORE ATTENDING IN ORDER FOR US TO ARRANGE FOR THE APPROPRIATE PROFESSIONALS TO BE AVAILABLE TO YOU.

 YOU CAN CALL VIA WILTSHIRE POLICE ON 101 OR VIA OUR SELF REFERRAL HELPLINE 0808 168 0024 both of these numbers are answered 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

You can access our services either via Police or you can contact us directly. You can also be referred to our services through another agency as long they have your consent.

Confidentiality

If you do give us your contact details or, provide identifiable information, we will usually keep your contact with us completely confidential. However, in certain circumstances we may have to share information with another agency (e.g. social services, police or the ambulance service) in order to protect you, or another person. This will apply if:- 

  • you are a child or young person under 18  who has experienced, or is at risk of, serious harm or
  • you provide information about a child or young person under 18 who has experienced, or is at risk of, serious harm or,
  • we feel you are a vulnerable adult who has experienced, or is at risk of, serious harm or,
  • you provide information about a  person we feel may be a vulnerable adult who has experienced, or is at risk of, serious harm.

The person you speak to will be happy to discuss this in more detail. Whenever possible we will advise you before any breach of confidentiality is made.
